PARAKINO is a project that merges cinema and club culture. It is an encounter where expanded-cinema image projections created by Natalia Kozieł-Kalliomäki intertwine with a DJ set by Elvira. Flickering film-strip imagery, fragmented loops, and raw sounds come together in hypnotic sequences, inviting the audience to experience cinema and sound as something physical, immediate, and shared.
PARAKINO is neither a classic visual performance nor a typical DJ set. It is a living, freely evolving audiovisual environment. Natalia works with analog textures. She manipulates projected images using two 16mm film projectors and an overhead projector, operating at the intersection of cinema and shadow theater. Elvira weaves ambient and experimental sonic threads into PARAKINO. Together, they create layered narratives - intimate and disorienting.
Natalia Kozieł-Kalliomäki is a visual artist and filmmaker born in Bydgoszcz, currently living and working in Helsinki. She studied painting and printmaking. Her work includes installations and live performances - expanded cinema pieces rooted in the avant-garde traditions of experimental cinema. She is fascinated by the materiality of film and the power of simple optical tricks. She experiments with obsolete film-processing technologies in the darkroom. She works with portable film projectors, magic lanterns, and overhead projectors. She runs the “no 12” studio in Helsinki and is a co-founder of the collective that opened the film laboratory ELK LAB this year.
Elvira is a record collector and DJ whose musical path began with dubstep and evolved through techno, house, and minimal, eventually focusing on darker shades of tech-house, progressive, electro, breaks, UKG, and slower downtempo and abstract sounds. From 2019 to 2023, he ran k-wax - a conceptual record store expanded into event organization and community building. He currently organizes events under the k-wax banner and the Hex series. All the while he also produces his own electronic music using hybrid analog-digital synthesizers and drum machines. He is a resident at Schron in Poznań.
