Animation is Queer - Weekend Animation Workshop

Animation is one of the most queer artistic media - fluid, colorful, and open to experimentation. It is also a powerful tool for storytelling and self-expression. Will you dare to create an animation that reflects you?

We invite queer people and everyone interested in queer topics, 18+, to join three intensive days of creative work in English, where you will:

• learn the basics of stop-motion animation, storyboarding, and puppet-making,

• take part in animation exercises and collective storytelling,

• co-create a short animated film, culminating in a final screening.

Programme Overview

• Day 1 | October 24 (Friday afternoon): introduction, storytelling, animation exercises

• Day 2 | October 25 (Saturday): storyboarding, puppets and props, set construction

• Day 3 | October 26 (Sunday): animation, editing, final screening

Requirements
Participants should bring a smartphone or tablet with the free Stop Motion Studio app installed. The workshop will be held in English, with accessibility needs accommodated.

About the Instructor

Daniel Sterlin-Altman is Canadian animation filmmaker based in Berlin. An MFA holder in Animation Direction from the Filmuniversity Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in Potsdam, Daniel has directed several independent short films as well as commissioned works that have displayed and won awards in festivals worldwide, including a Golden Horsemen Award at Filmfest Dresden, the Cristal for Best Graduation Short at Annecy International Animation, Best Student Film At Animafest Zagreb. He is also an active collaborator with the intersectional queer collective, Critical Queer Solidarity, and facilitates both animation and politically-minded animation workshops throughout Germany.
His film Carrotica was presented in the international competition at the 18th Animator Festival.
