The Animator International Animated Film Festival in Poznań is the largest animated film festival in Poland. The first edition was held in 2008 and marked the culmination of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Polish Animation. During each edition of the Festival, some 300 films from around the world are showcased, including retrospectives, reviews, premieres or animation classics. The program also has sections related to games and virtual reality.
Since 2017, Animator has been a qualifying Festival for Oscar® nominations.
Animator is one of five Polish film festivals and the only Polish animated film festival that can get its winner on a fast-track to an American Film Academy nomination. The winner of the Grand Prix in the International Competition has a chance for an Oscar trophy for best animated short film.
The purpose of Animator is to showcase the potential of animated film. The festival brings the art of animation to the public, explores its roots, shows the latest trends and innovations, and connects animated film with various fields of art and science. It is an event that inspires, providing a rich program for both animated film enthusiasts and those who are new to the magic of animation.
At the very heart of ANIMATOR lie the competitions, accompanying the Festival since its inauguration: the International Short Film Competitions, the International Feature Film Competition, the International Animated Series Competition, and the Polish Animated Film Competition.
