The Oscar®-qualifying 15th International Animated Film Festival ANIMATOR starts in just a month!
Every year during the festival we showcase about 300 films. This year, in the competitions alone we will watch as many as 118 animated films from all around the world. There are four competitions scheduled: the Polish Competition ANIMATOR.PL and three International Competitions: a short film, a feature film, and an animated series competition.
The winners of the festival's GRAND PRIX - the Golden Pegasus and the Golden Animusz, the main prize in the ANIMATOR.PL competition - will be decided by an international jury of acclaimed animation artists, film industry specialists and promoters of the art of animation.
Meet the Jury and the guests of the 15th ANIMATOR Festival:
International Short Film Competition Jury:
- Emma de Swaef - Belgian animator specializing in stop-motion animation and puppet-making. She works full-time with Marc James Roels as Marc&Emma, with whom they created the touching piece Oh Willy..., which has won 80 international awards and was nominated for a César. This year, they directed the first chapter of the critically acclaimed film The House for Netflix.
- Sebastian Ładyżyński - composer, author of film and theater scores, audiovisual shows and computer games. Laureate of three Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Scholarships.
- Daniel Gill - British film, commercial and television animator. He has worked on such films as Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, Charlie Kaufman's Anomalisa or Wes Anderson's Oscar®-nominated Isle of Dogs. In 2021, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for an episode of the Netflix series Love, Death and Robots.
International Feature Film Competition Jury:
- Carolina López Caballero - one of the most important voices of animation from Spain. Director of Animac: International Animation Film Festival and the leader of Animario Fest in Madrid and Xcèntric CCCB. Experienced film director, producer, programmer and curator.
- Hisko Hulsing – Dutch animator, painter, composer. His films Seventeen and Junkyard won numerous awards globally and were nominated for an Oscar®. He designed and directed Undone, critically acclaimed animated series on Amazon Prime Video.
- Marc James Roels – Belgian director, part of the aforementioned Marc&Emma duo.
Jury of the Polish Animated Films Competition ANIMATOR.PL:
- Tomasz Kolankiewicz - film expert and historian, curator of film series, Art Director of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
- Matylda Damięcka - artist, songwriter, director, animator, singer, actress and cartoonist. She creates visualizations for concerts, theatrical performances and music videos with elements of animation. She publishes on her Instagram and Facebook profile - The Girl Who Fell On Earth.
- Wiola Sowa - director of animated and experimental films. Creator of augmented reality AR and cinematic VR projects. Her films have been shown around the world, including at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., during the Annecy Festival, and during CAMERIMAGE in Bydgoszcz.
- Joanna Jasinska-Koronkiewicz - animator, director and screenwriter. She is a lecturer at the PWSFTviT in Łódź, and the art supervisor of many award-winning graduation shorts.
- Tim Allen - outstanding stop-motion animator, co-creator of Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. Key animator on Wes Anderson's Oscar®-nominated film Isle of Dogs, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie, and Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires. He also worked on the Academy Award®-winning Peter and the Wolf and the Academy Award®-nominated My Life as a Zucchini, as well as the iconic series: Fireman Sam, Postman Pat and Shaun the Sheep.

The Oscar®-qualifying ANIMATOR is one of the largest animation festivals in Europe. Each edition of the festival showcases over 300 films from around the world, including competitions, retrospectives, thematic reviews and premieres. ANIMATOR also features concerts, series, workshops and a very extensive program for the youngest audience. A unique quality of the Poznań festival is the all-permeating fusion of animation and music. The 15th IFFA Animator will be held in Poznań 8-15 July, and online 15-21 July 2022.
