More than entertainment. What are "Serious Games" and how are they made?
Jakub Ryfa (Doji)
Video games play an important role in modern culture, and with the rapid growth of the games industry, we are seeing their use in new areas of our lives. In a world where it is increasingly difficult to maintain our attention and concentration, the average gamer spends several hours a week playing, achieving a high level of focus, absorbing a wealth of information. Why is this happening, and can we find a useful purpose for this engagement and focus? Learning programming, foreign languages, how to operate machines, developing good habits or encouraging self-reflection - these are just some of the applications of Serious Games. The lecture will present good practices of designing serious games and specific examples of their implementation, as well as challenges faced by designers of educational games.
