Stefan Schabenbeck – a student of Andrzej Wajda, a classic figure in Polish animation, and one of the most highly acclaimed directors, born in 1940 and retired in 1970, is the subject of a retrospective showcasing both his famous works („Schody”, „Wszystko jest liczbą”) and lesser-known ones, including both animated films and live-action shorts. The artist will speak about working as a director in an animation studio during the socialist era of material shortages and lack of equipment, and simultaneously, the golden age of Polish animation. He’ll also reflect on his decision to leave filmmaking, what fuels creativity, and why he chose to settle in Bali.
