
Emma Calder Retrospective

This programme is a collection of work by the filmmaker Emma Calder.
Emma was born in London and studied Graphic design at The Royal College of Art. She has worked as an Animation Director, Artist, Graphic Designer and Lecturer and has written, designed and illustrated books, for both adults and children.
For more than 40 years Emma Calder forged a distinctive career as an independent animator and producer, working in short film, music video and children’s television. She co-founded Pearly Oyster Productions making many successful and award-winning animated films, including The Queens Monastery and Roger Ballen’s Theatre of Apparitions.
Award winning, BFI funded short animation Beware of Trains (2022) has screened in over 30 festivals, and was multi award winning, including The Maria Lassnig award at Tricky Women festival and the Cutting Edge award at the British Animation Awards 2024.
Emma died in September 2024, and her team are now working hard to complete her final film, House of Love.
