ANIMATION AND SPECIAL EFFECTS
Since at least the 1980s, a debate has been ongoing as to whether or not computers kill or enhance animation. One side of the argument claims that animation has always been an art craft and the advent of computers has stripped it of the creator’s unique imprint. While on the other side, adherents to digital technologies argue that computers open new horizons for animators. We are of the opinion that there is place for both of these views in animation. And in any case, a fight against computers really is a losing battle. They are here to stay.
In this section, we present a collection of films made by the pioneers and trailblazers of digital techniques. Our intention is to prove that, from its early days, computer animation has allowed filmmakers room for creative experiments.
